HISTORY

The history of ergonomics is very very old. Ergonomics is a work of selection, work of environment and inventions of the tools. A study from 1633 to 1714 shows complaint about Disease of workers with occupations and musculoskeletal. This complaint was written by Bernardino Ramazinni in a supplement which was published in 1713.

In 1857 Wojciech Jastzebowksi created a special word as “ERGONOMICS” in the philosophical description. This was “based on the truths drawn from the Science of Nature”

In the early day of 1900’s – people were working with machine tools and with human supremacy. It was the need to improve the productivity of the workers. With the concept of ergonomic this method was improved. Method of Scientific Management was used to improve the efficiency of work. How it was improved? – Only due to the development of the tools which the worker were using and this method became very popular.

Frederick W. Taylor was a leader and pioneer of this loom and he assessed the jobs to conclude as the "ONE BEST WAY" the workers could be executed. At Bethlehem strengthen, Taylor considerably increased employees assembly and remuneration in a shoveling chore by identical shovel with the type of material that was being moved (ashes, coal or ore).

In World War II AIRPLANES were used by the military. This was the greater interest towards the human-machine. It improved the efficiency the soldiers. First the designs were complicated then these were improved with the human controls. After the war it was observed that too much force of the work is required so they started to research in many areas like:

  1. a) Muscles force is involved to complete the task manually.
  2. b) Low back disk compressed while lifting something.
  3. c) Cardiovascular retort while doing heavy labor.
  4. d) Apparently they have to carry full load while pulling or pushing.

A study show that Frank and Lillian Gilbreth made jobs extra competent and fewer fatiguing in the course of time with motion analysis and regulate tools, resources and all job procedure. With affect of this loom, many of the motions in bricklaying was reduced as 18 to 4.5 permitting the bricklayers to boost their speed of laying bricks as of 120 to 350 bricks / hour.

The whole thing shows that machines and tools are required for human beings to increase the productivity and efficiency. Many tools and machines are invented to increase the production and manufacturing. Ergonomics contains the knowledge of doing work in well organized, healthy and efficient manner.
